My love for computers began in 1982 when I wrote my first computer program. It was a black-jack program written in BASIC. In those days there was no Windows, no charming Mac. My dad was working with a prototype of the Apple LISA here in Ithaca at NCR, but that was only the rudimentary beginnings of the fabulous user interfaces we see today. I graduated with a major in Information Science, which studies the relationship between the end user and computer technology.
From there I worked for many years as a graphic designer in New York City. Before Power Point there was a program called Harvard Graphics. This was the main program that Managers used to give presentations. Clumsy and not
very user friendly, Designers like myself were paid handsomely to decipher its illogical code and create presentations. In this capacity I worked freelance for many Investment companies; Meryl Lynch, Wasserstein and Parella, First Boston and for the educational offices of The American Museum of Natural History. It was at the Natural History Museum that I was introduced to my first Macintosh. What a revelation.! It crashed at least six times each day (remember that skull and crossbones?) but the use interface was wonderful. Then the Microsoft Office Suite appeared and the game was on.
Many sojourns and side trips later, I am back in Ithaca raising my wonderful son. I am still fascinated and delighted by all computers and am enjoying teaching my three year old about his first Mac.

After volunteering at Kendal helping low vision retirees use their computers, I branched out and started Ithaca Computer Consulting. What really gets me excited is helping inexperienced users gain confidence and get the most from these wonderful tools. I am also thrilled at troubleshooting computer glitches with experienced users. I see what I do more as service than as business.
